As well as being safe, smooth and systematic in your ride, you will need to demonstrate a good knowledge of the Rules of the Road and Motorcycle Roadcraft. Every rider will have his or her own style of riding which will be evident to the examiner.
First impressions are also important and says a lot about how serious you are about riding. Clothing, high visibility vest, and a clean bike make a good first impression. Ensure your machine is legal and roadworthy.
Your examiner will have had many years experience and many are police instructors. They will do their best to put you at your ease and will go through the format of your test, how long it will be and if you are not already familiar with, radio
equipment.
The following area's are what he is basing your assessment on:
Clutch, Gears, Brakes, Throttle, Rear observation, Horn, Visibility, Smoothness, The System, Positioning, Cornering, Signals, Speed, Overtaking, Deportment, Vehicle Sympathy, Observations, Distance Judgement, Motorways & Dual Carriageways, and Knowledge
Some advanced tests will have a pass or fail system, but the RoSPA test has a Bronze, Silver and Gold Grade. The Examiner will go through the ride with you afterwards highlighting areas that were competent and those that might need some more work. Achieving any of the grades is something to be proud of and should only serve to enhance your enjoyment and fine tune your abilities.
